Date & Time:

Structure, texture, and design through the art of hand weaving

This 10-lesson course offers an in-depth exploration of hand weaving for adults who wish to develop both technical skill and creative confidence. Moving beyond basic introduction, the course examines woven structure, material behaviour, pattern development, and thoughtful design application.

Through guided demonstrations and sustained studio practice, you will build precision in tension control, edge finishing, and loom management while exploring colour interaction, surface texture, and structural variation. The course gradually transitions from structured technical exercises to independently designed woven work.

By the end of the programme, you will have completed a resolved textile piece and developed the ability to plan, execute, and finish woven projects with confidence.

No prior experience is required.

What You’ll Learn

  • Master foundational weaving structure — understanding warp and weft relationships, loom setup, and tension control.

  • Refine technical consistency — developing clean selvedges, even beating, and structural balance.

  • Explore material behaviour — working with different yarn weights and fibres to create varied surface qualities.

  • Develop pattern structures — including plain weave variations, basket weave, rib weave, and introductory textured techniques.

  • Plan woven compositions — considering proportion, rhythm, colour sequencing, and structural integrity.

  • Design and execute an independent project — from concept development to loom preparation and weaving.

  • Apply professional finishing techniques — securing warp ends, removing work from the loom, and presenting completed textiles.
