Over 15 hours of practical, hands-on learning, you'll gain the essential skills needed to confidently start your own sewing projects at home. Rather than focusing on a single project, this course teaches the core techniques that every beginner should know, giving you the knowledge to tackle a wide range of sewing and dressmaking projects independently.

  • Understand Fabrics & Materials: Learn the differences between woven and knit fabrics, grainlines, fabric weights, and how to choose the right fabric for your project.

  • Get to Know Essential Sewing Tools: Discover the purpose of needles, threads, scissors, pins, measuring tools, seam rippers, marking tools, and pressing equipment.

  • Master Basic Hand Sewing Techniques: Practice essential hand stitches including running stitch, backstitch, and slip stitch, as well as basic mending and repair techniques.

  • Become Confident with a Sewing Machine: Learn the parts of a sewing machine, how to thread it correctly, wind and insert a bobbin, and troubleshoot common issues.

  • Develop Core Machine Sewing Skills: Practice straight stitching, sewing curves, pivoting corners, maintaining seam allowances, and achieving neat, professional-looking results.

  • Learn Essential Sewing Techniques: Explore common construction methods such as topstitching, hemming, gathering, seam finishing, zipper insertion, and machine-made buttonholes.

  • Read Sewing Patterns: Understand patterns, fabric requirements, notions, sizing charts, and how to select the correct size based on your measurements.

Course Details

  • Duration: 3 days, 15 hours

  • Location: Art Academy Nadur (Triq Agius de Soldanis)

  • Requirements: Students will need to bring their own sewing supplies, including a sewing machine. Ages 13+.

  • What’s Included: Hands-on teaching, individual attention

  • Certification: Upon attendance of 80% of the Course, students will be given a Certificate of Attendance

  • Language: The course is taught in English

In the case the case that due to unforeseen circumstances that the teacher is unavailable, the course will shift by a week.
