Sewing Fundamentals & Creative Projects (Ages 9+)
A full day of sewing, creativity and hands-on making!
Designed for children aged 9+, this one-day sewing workshop gives young makers the opportunity to learn how to use a sewing machine, develop practical sewing skills and create their own finished projects — all in a fun and supportive environment.
The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, from complete beginners who have never used a sewing machine before to children who already have some sewing experience and want to develop their skills further.
Throughout the day, students will work at their own level, learning essential sewing techniques while putting them into practice through creative projects they can proudly take home.
What They'll Learn
Using a Sewing Machine – Beginners will learn how to safely set up, thread and operate a sewing machine, while more experienced students will build confidence and improve their control.
Essential Sewing Skills – Learn how to sew straight lines, curves and corners, control seam allowances and create neat, secure stitching.
Understanding Fabric – Discover how different fabrics behave and learn the basics of grain, cutting and preparing fabric for sewing.
Working with Patterns – Learn how simple sewing patterns work, how to position them onto fabric and how to accurately cut out the pieces needed for a project.
Constructing a Project – Understand how individual fabric pieces come together to create a finished item.
Finishing Techniques – Explore techniques such as hems, seams, topstitching and other finishing details appropriate to each student's project.
Creative Personalisation – Make each project their own through fabric choices, decorative details and individual creative touches.
Projects
Students will work on practical sewing projects suited to their age, experience and ability level.
Complete beginners will start with simpler projects that allow them to become comfortable using the sewing machine, while students with previous sewing experience can work on more challenging pieces and techniques.
The focus is not simply on completing a project, but on helping each child understand how things are made and giving them the confidence to continue sewing independently.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is suitable for children aged 9+ of all skill levels.
No previous sewing experience is required. Complete beginners will be guided through the basics from the very beginning.
Children who already know how to use a sewing machine are equally welcome and will be given more challenging techniques and projects appropriate to their level.
With individual guidance throughout the day, every student can progress at their own pace.
Course Schedule
Tuesday 3rd November 2026 - 8:15 AM – 3:15 PM
