Teens Sewing Open Course (Intermediate/Advanced)
Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level?
In this open and creative sewing course, you get to choose what you want to make! Whether you have an idea for an outfit, want to customise your clothes, or simply want to learn new sewing techniques, you'll work on your own project with guidance from an experienced sewing and pattern-making tutor.
You can follow a commercial sewing pattern, adapt an existing pattern, or even learn how to turn your own ideas and sketches into a pattern. Each student will work at their own level, making this course perfect for young people who want to become more confident and independent with sewing.
What You’ll Learn
Design Your Own Projects: Turn your ideas, sketches and inspiration into creative sewing projects.
Explore Pattern Making: Learn how patterns work and, depending on your project, create or modify your own patterns.
Use Commercial Patterns: Learn how to read, follow and adapt commercial sewing patterns.
Develop Your Sewing Skills: Build on the techniques learned in the Beginners course and learn new ways to construct and finish your projects.
Learn New Techniques: Explore techniques such as zips, buttons, pockets, darts, gathers, waistbands, sleeves and other details depending on your project.
Choose the Right Fabric: Learn how different fabrics behave and how to choose the right material for your project.
Customise & Upcycle: Experiment with modifying, decorating and transforming existing clothes and fabrics.
Solve Problems Independently: Learn how to troubleshoot your sewing and make adjustments as your project develops.
Create Something You're Proud Of: Take your project from an initial idea to a finished piece that reflects your own style and creativity.
Choose Your Project
This is an open project-based course, meaning that every student can work on something different.
You could choose to:
Design Your Own: Start with an idea, drawing or inspiration and learn how to turn it into a sewing project.
Adapt a Pattern: Take a commercial or existing pattern and change its shape, size or details to create something that is uniquely yours.
Follow a Pattern: Choose a commercial sewing pattern and learn how to confidently follow it while developing new sewing techniques.
Project Ideas
You could make:
Skirts
Dresses
Tops and shirts
Trousers and shorts
Bags and backpacks
Pouches and accessories
Costumes
Soft toys
Room décor
Upcycled or redesigned clothing
Personalised fashion pieces
Other projects approved by the tutor
Projects should be suitable for the student's experience and achievable within the 10-lesson course.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is designed for teens who have completed Art Academy's TeensSewing Course or who already have basic sewing experience.
Students should be comfortable using a sewing machine and understand basic sewing techniques.
It is ideal for young people who want to experiment, design, create and develop their sewing skills through projects they actually want to make.
Course Details
Duration: 10 Lessons
Location: Art Academy Mosta (131, Constitution Street, Mosta) or Art Academy Zurrieq (88, Triq Matteolo Saliba, Zurrieq)
Class Size: Maximum 8 Students
Requirements: Students will need to bring their own sewing supplies, including a sewing machine, students Aged 9+
What’s Included: Hands-on teaching, individual attention
Certification: Upon attendance of 80% of the Course, students will be given a Certificate of Attendance
Language: The course is taught in English
In the case the case that due to unforeseen circumstances that the teacher is unavailable, the course will shift by a week.
