Sewing Open Course (Intermediate/Advanced)
Take your sewing skills beyond the basics and learn how to turn your ideas into beautifully constructed garments.
This practical course gives you the opportunity to develop a sewing project of your choice while learning the fundamentals of pattern design, garment construction and fitting. With guidance from an experienced tutor specialising in clothing design and pattern drafting, students can choose to either develop their own pattern from an idea or sketch, or work from a commercial sewing pattern.
Whether you want to design something from scratch or learn how to confidently work with an existing pattern, this small-group course will help you develop the skills to plan, create and complete your own garment.

Understand Garment Construction: Develop a deeper understanding of how garments are assembled, including seams, darts, closures and other construction details.
Create & Test Patterns: Learn how to create a toile or test garment where appropriate, assess the fit and make adjustments before working with your final fabric.
Improve Garment Fit: Understand common fitting issues and learn how to make practical adjustments to patterns and garments.
Work with Fabric: Learn how fabric choice, grain, drape and structure affect the design and construction of a garment.
