


Knitting Course for Beginners
Whether you’ve never picked up a pair of knitting needles before or you’ve dabbled a little and want to build confidence, this Knitting for Beginners course is the perfect place to start!
You’ll learn the fundamental skills, stitches, and techniques that form the foundation of all knitting — giving you the knowledge to start creating your own scarves, hats, and simple garments with pride.
What You’ll Learn
1. Getting Started with Knitting
How to hold your needles and yarn comfortably
Casting on and casting off
Understanding knitting terminology (right side, wrong side, etc.)
Learning the basic stitches: knit (k), purl (p), and slip stitch (ssk)
2. Shaping Your Work: Increasing & Decreasing
Yarn over (yo)
Make 1 left (m1l) and Make 1 right (m1r)
Knit 2 together (k2tog) and Purl 2 together (p2tog)
3. Creating Beautiful Fabrics
Combine stitches to form different textures and patterns, including:
Garter stitch
Stocking stitch
Ribbing
Lace
Cables
4. Understanding Your Yarn
How to read a yarn label
Tension and gauge
Choosing the right needle sizes
Selecting yarns suitable for different projects
5. Reading Patterns & Starting Projects
How to read and follow knitting patterns

Who This Course Is For
This course is designed for complete beginners or those who would like a refresher on knitting fundamentals. No prior experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!
What You’ll Achieve
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
Confidently knit, purl, increase, and decrease
Understand how to read patterns and yarn labels
Create a range of fabric textures and patterns
Begin and complete your own simple knitting projects
Course Details
Mode of Study: Once weekly (2 hours for each lesson)
Duration: 10 Lessons
Location: Art Academy Mosta (131, Constitution Street, Mosta) and Art Academy Nadur Gozo (Triq Agius de Soldanis, Nadur)
Requirements: Ages 15+, Students will need to bring their own yarn and needles.
