Locations, Day & Time:

Learn from scratch, build your confidence, or take your knitting skills further in a supportive studio setting.

This 10-week Knitting Course is designed to give students the freedom to learn and progress at their own pace — whether you have never picked up a pair of knitting needles before or already have experience and want to develop more advanced techniques.

Across weekly 2-hour sessions, complete beginners will be guided through the foundations of knitting, while more experienced knitters can develop their technique, tackle more challenging patterns and work on projects suited to their individual goals.

With a strict maximum of just 8 students, the open format allows the tutor to provide individual guidance throughout the course, helping each student progress from their own starting point.

What You’ll Learn

The techniques covered will vary according to your experience, chosen projects and individual goals.

  • Knitting fundamentals — learn how to cast on and off, work knit and purl stitches, understand tension and become comfortable handling yarn and needles.

  • Understand yarns and needles — learn about different fibres, yarn weights, needle sizes, gauge and choosing the right materials for your project.

  • Read and understand patterns — develop confidence with knitting terminology, abbreviations, written patterns and charts.

  • Identify and fix mistakes — learn how to recognise and correct common problems such as dropped or incorrect stitches without starting again.

  • Develop your stitch techniques — progress into techniques such as cables, lacework, short rows and textured stitches according to your level.

  • Learn shaping and construction — explore increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round and techniques used to create garments and accessories.

  • Explore colourwork — more experienced students can develop skills in stranded knitting, colour changes, Fair Isle-style charts and other techniques.

  • Improve your finishing — learn techniques such as seaming, picking up stitches, button bands, I-cords, blocking and professional finishing.

  • Work on your own projects — choose projects appropriate to your ability and interests, with ongoing guidance and support from the tutor.

Whether your goal is to learn your very first stitches, complete your first project, master a new technique or finally tackle that pattern you've been wanting to try, the course is designed to grow with you.

Students can also return for future courses to continue working on new projects and progressively develop their skills.
