Kids Textile Arts: Sewing, Weaving & Macrame Course (Ages 7+)
The Kids Textile Arts Course allows children to explore a wide range of textile techniques while developing creativity, coordination, and confidence through guided projects.
This course covers weaving, macramé, hand sewing, fabric dyeing, printing, and fabric painting, giving students a strong foundation in both traditional and contemporary textile arts. Each lesson is designed to be engaging, experimental, and accessible, encouraging children to explore texture, colour, and pattern in imaginative ways.
What You’ll Learn
Weaving Techniques: Learn how to weave using simple looms and create colourful textured patterns using yarn and mixed materials
Macramé: Discover knotting techniques to create decorative pieces
Hand Sewing Skills: Master basic sewing stitches to join and construct fabric pieces
Fabric Dyeing: Experiment with tie-dye and folding techniques to transform plain fabric into vibrant, unique designs
Fabric Printing: Use stamps, stencils, and natural objects to create patterned fabric surfaces
Fabric Painting: Explore fabric paint to decorate fabric with colour and texture
Creative Textile Design: Combine different techniques to produce original textile artworks
Course Overview
This course is ideal for children who love making, crafting, and experimenting with materials. Students will work on a variety of guided projects, including woven samples, macramé accessories, dyed and printed fabric pieces, and a final mixed-media textile artwork that brings all their skills together.
With a strong focus on creativity and hands-on learning, children are encouraged to develop their own ideas while being supported through each stage of the making process. Small group teaching ensures individual attention and a supportive, engaging environment.
Course Details
Mode of Study: Once weekly (2 hours per lesson)
Duration: 10 Lessons
Location: Art Academy Mosta (131 Constitution Street Mosta) or Art Academy Zurrieq (88, Triq Matteolo Saliba, Zurrieq)
Requirements: Students will need to bring their own supplies. The full supply list will be provided closer to the date.
What’s Included: Hands-on teaching, individual attention
Certification: Upon attendance of 80% of the Course, students will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance and will be accredited for their Informal Learning, thus given a signed and stamped form for their Informal Education by the Institute.
Ages: Children aged 7+
Language: The course is taught in English

Course Funding
Tax Deduction on Fees paid for Cultural and Creative Courses:
Parents of children under 16 who attended any Cultural or Creative courses at Art Academy are eligible for a tax deduction scheme of up to a maximum of €300 for each child. Parents are entitled to claim a deduction against their chargeable income of up to a maximum of €300 for each child.
