Figure Drawing Course

€159.00
Date & Time:

Learn to observe, construct, and confidently draw the human form

This structured course introduces adults to the fundamentals of figure drawing using graphite pencil and charcoal. Designed for those who are new to drawing the human figure, the programme provides a clear and progressive approach to understanding proportion, gesture, and structure.

Students will work from carefully selected reference images and guided studies to develop accuracy, control, and confidence. Emphasis is placed on learning how to simplify the body into manageable forms, capture movement through gesture drawing, and build tonal depth using graphite and charcoal.

While no previous experience in figure drawing is required, a basic understanding of general drawing principles is recommended.

What You Will Learn

  • Understand human anatomical proportion — studying how body parts relate to one another using practical measurement techniques.

  • Develop observational drawing skills — practising skeletal structure recognition and studying major anatomical landmarks.

  • Master gesture drawing — capturing movement, energy, and natural posture through loose, expressive line work.

  • Construct the figure using geometric and structural forms — building body volume from simplified shapes and line-armature foundations.

  • Draw specific body studies — including hands, feet, and torso structures, focusing on form, motion, and anatomical behaviour.

  • Work with graphite pencil and charcoal — exploring shading, hatching, blending, tonal blocking, and contrast control.

  • Learn timed and sustained drawing methods — progressing from short gesture studies to longer detailed drawings.

  • Complete a full figure drawing project — applying proportion, structure, and tonal techniques to a finished work.
