Children's Crochet Open Course (Ages 8 to 15)
Take your crochet skills beyond the basics and explore new techniques through a project of your choice!
This flexible, project-based course gives you the opportunity to choose what you would like to create while receiving personalised guidance from an experienced crochet tutor. Whether you want to follow a pattern, adapt an existing design or develop your own idea, you will learn new techniques and build your confidence as you work.
With a maximum of 10 students, each participant can work at their own pace and receive individual support suited to their experience and chosen project.
What You’ll Learn
Develop Your Crochet Skills: Build on the techniques learned in the Beginners course and explore more complex stitches, patterns and construction methods.
Work with Crochet Patterns: Learn to confidently read and follow patterns, understand abbreviations and charts, and troubleshoot when something doesn't go as planned.
Adapt Existing Patterns: Learn how to modify patterns, change colours, adjust sizing and personalise designs to suit your ideas.
Explore New Techniques: Develop skills such as shaping, increasing and decreasing, working in the round, joining motifs, colourwork and other techniques suited to your project.
Create Your Own Designs: Experiment with stitches, shapes, colours and motifs to develop your own creative ideas and, where appropriate, learn how to translate them into a crochet project.
Improve Construction & Finishing: Learn how to join pieces, shape projects and achieve neat, professional-looking finishes.
Choose the Right Materials: Develop a better understanding of yarn weights, fibres, hooks and how they affect the appearance and structure of your finished piece.
Troubleshoot Independently: Learn how to identify and solve common crochet problems and make adjustments as your project develops.
Complete Your Own Project: Take your chosen project from planning and preparation through to the final details.
